AIMST to set up branch in Tronoh

IPOH: The Perak government has offered a 40ha piece of land in Tronoh, 35km from here, for the setting up of a branch of the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST).

State MIC chairman Datuk G. Rajoo said construction of the campus would begin once the university’s main campus in Kedah was completed early next year.

“Although AIMST was established by the MIC, I hope that all races will study there,” he said during the prize-giving ceremony of the AIMST fund-raising golfathon at the Royal Perak Golf Club here on Saturday.

During the event, Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah gave RM50,000 to the AIMST fund while Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali, as state Barisan Nasional chairman, contributed RM49,000.

Rajoo said the golfathon managed to raise about RM400,000, bringing the total amount raised by Perak MIC so far to RM8.7mil.

The AIMST main campus in Kedah will cost RM486mil.
